Hi All,

I was very fortunate to be blessed with this exquisite dreadnought cutaway. As any of the guitars from the specialty shop great attention was paid to detail and craftsmanship as you all know. One area of weakness with Takamine is to document their builds :-)
I guess you can't blame them as they produce such a variety the sky is the limit. So my dilemma here is what type of wood did they use for the body? I have googled and very other search engine, every which way and the only mention to an EF39 is in the parts pdf for pickguards for the EF36, 37 ,39 models. No other mention of an EF39. So anyone care to make a venture on this unique grain and color? Thank you Kaman and Takamine for such a wonderful guitar! If needed you can email at bryanb@nbnet.nb.ca or visit my site http://www.gratefulguitars.com formerly takshop.ca

Thanks
Bryan

The EF39 was never distributed in the United States but the spec for back and sides *should* have been rosewood. I saw a sample one about a year ago and it was definitely rosewood b+s but did not look like yours. Yours is way lighter and the grain does look different... It might be a Canadian only spike model, you should try calling B&J Music (the Canadian Takamine distributor) and see if they have specs or any info on the model (905-896-3001). Maybe its a one-off? If B&J doesn't know maybe they can contact Takamine Japan for you. Good luck!

Thanks Sandtrooper!
I did find one reference to it on a European online music store from their 2007 catalog under the Limited Edition section but no specs.
Like you the grain looks more like rosewood but the color is allot lighter. Plus where the EF36 is rosewood and EF37 KOA, I thought they may have used a different wood for the EF39 model. I have dealt with B&J before and they provide super service. I sent Ron some pictures see if he has any input. It may be a one-off they just put together with some woods they had on hand. You know whatever it was must be special to go into a guitar of this quality. It really does sound amazing, maybe a little on the brighter side but a good even tone across the strings and good projection and sustain. Maybe try a different set of strings on her when these wear out.
Thanks again for your input.

Bryan
