I decided to "move" this thread http://www.takamineforum.com/forum3/viewtopic.php?f=8&t=4142 over here :D

I am in "acquisition mode" for a 12 string. My dream guitar would be a Martin d12-20 (or 35!)...12 frets/slothead/slopeshoulder....sigh....
Barring talking Mike into making a 12 string version of the TF740FS, I'm thinking a old F400-S would make me happy.
Now you guys are talking Ovations, which I don't know a thing about! I'm excited to see they have 12-fretters...with a slothead too!
So....give me some models to search for. Solid top/12 strings/12-fret/slothead please :)

many thanks!
dm

ps
Luke (PtT) is helping me watch a couple of misspelled listings on eBay. One I have a max bid on and the other he is giving me "sniping" lessons on.

In Ovation-land look for a Pacemaker or Glen Campbell 12-string.

Both are solid wood tops, 12 frets, 1-7/8 nut, slothead. Only difference is that the Glen Campbell model is bit fancier (bound neck, diamond shaped inlays, gold tuners) but sonically they are the same. I've seen them on ebay on good shape for around $500.

Pacemaker is model 1115 (acoustic) or 1615 (acoustic electric)
Glen Campbell is model 1118 (acoustic or 1618 (acoustic electric)

Or you can move up to the Cadillac Adamas line and get a model 1688 or the Adamas2 equivelent (not sure of the model number).
Considered to be one of the top 12 strings made (to those unbiased enough to give it a fair shake).

Those are gonna run ya between $1200-2000 and worth every penny!!!!

Thanks to Luke's "snipe" lesson (combined with my looking-for-misspelled listings), I am now the proud owner of an F400-S (for two bills :) )
Looks to need some major cleaning, but I can't wait to get started!

Congrats. I have one of those ... even with the character marks, it's still a nice guitar.

Well, I do have the holly grail of Martin 12 strings...the solid headstock 14 fret D12-45 from Martin's Custom Shop. Has the brass custom plate for Steve Fiott of the White Mountain Singers (WMS), an excellent trio similar to the Kingston Trio, active on the East Coast but did come to the West Coast a couple of times. When I got the #50 pre-production slothead, I also bought the Martin 12-str guitar from the same seller that many of us know the following week, then I bought several of their CD's. Martin made 83 D12-45 between 1969-1987 (not Brazilian) but only two were solid headstock and 14 fret. This guitar was made in 1981. Steve Fiott Produced the first two records for the Clancy Brothers and the first two for the Kingston Trio. In addition, Steve worked with Dave Guard after he left the Kingston Trio. Lots of history but the guitar is in excellent condition. As the D45 6 string, the D12-45 sings like a bird. Couple of years ago, I posted on the Martin site whether anyone else had one. Almost immediately I had a large number of requests for pictures as the Martin guys had never seen one.
