I bought a beautiful Nashville acoustic guitar back in the late 70's, and have kept it pristine all these years - however, I'm getting ready to move overseas and want to sell it before I move. It's a Hayashi, N600D, Nashville, with a stamp inside starting "1977..."

I can't track down anything on this guitar online in order to come up with its value -- anyone out there have suggestions on the who/what/where of this guitar and manufacturer?

Here is a link to some photos I've posted.

Thanks for your help!

I looked on eBay, as you probably did, and found nothing. My guess is it's an off-brand, well built Japanese guitar--does it have a solid top?--and is "worth" very little on the market, but worth keeping if you like playing guitars. Old Takamines similar to that are selling for $3-500 on eBay, but they have a cult following. I never heard of a Hayashi collector, so selling it might be a frustrating proposition, even though, as you say, it's a nice instrument. I'd suggest finding a guitar player you like, or someone who'd like to learn, and gifting them with it. A local high school might appreciate it; I know ours would.

Likewise, can't say I ever heard of it. There were a ton of Martin knock-offs back in the 70s when everybody wanted to be Eagles, or some other such act.

Thanks for the comments and thoughts on this guitar!

After spending many hours on the Web I was able to track down someone in Japan who sells classic MIJ guitars (AND reads/writes in english! <G>) - he generously researched the guitar, found an old catalog page, and provided me with info:

"Solid spruce top, S and B are Rosewood, Neck is Mahogany, Ebony Fretboard --
600D shows high grade, volute neck, snow flake inlay, (mini) flower pot head inlay"

Yup, 10-4 on the rock-n-roll hippie-trippy days... playing our junky acoustic guitars (it was very entertaining playing a six-string that was so warped there was at least an inch gap between the strings and the end of the fret board <G>) as we sat outside on the steps of shops in Georgetown, DC and played/sang tunes of the times that didn't need more than the six-to-eight chords any of us knew how to play :-) That was even before the days when Emmylou Harris (of Takoma Park, MD) and Bruce Springsteen with the E-Street Band played at little DC clubs such as The Childe Harold, and clubs such as the Cellar Door were gateways to stardom for many... back in time when local DC groups such as the Fallen Angels had great "commune" houses out in the DC suburbs where you could drop in and there was music everywhere ;-)

Y'all have a great day!

Hmmm... here's an interesting twist... this just came in from the board manager of Cat's Eye guitar website (in Japanese) in Japan:

"Hello

'Nashvill' was made by TAKAMINE co.
Seles origin was 'Rokkoman inc'
http://www.rokkomann.co.jp/
Please hear details in the company.

N600D is Martn D-35 model.
Spec
Top:Solid Spruce
Sides & Back:Rosewood
Neck:Mahogany
Fingerboard:Makasar Ebony
Peg:Grover 102N

M Siries are Martin copies.
G Siries Guild copies.
First the copy of the Guild was made, and the copy of
Martin seemed to have been put on the market afterwards."

Well... I don't believe Hayashi and Takamine are the same manufacturing source (my guitar definitely is branded inside as Hayashi, but as it has a similar look to some of the Takamines shown on this forum that's what drew me to query folks on this forum about its origin), however it's nice to know that the "M Series" is an old MIJ Martin knock-off. The saga continues...

It could have come from the same factory. Back then all it took was an order and a factory would make you something.
It looks like Tak workmanship, but many of the factories from Japan in that time looked similar.

I've looked into Takamine electrics at some depth, and as far as I can tell a) Takamine didn't spend very long in the solidbody electric market, producing 200 or fewer units each of the few models they made (3, maybe 4 models) in 1984 an '85; and b) they always put "Takamine" on the headstocks.

Made-in-Japan Les Paul knockoffs are pretty common, from a number of manufacturers. Some of them are pretty good imitations, I understand. I supposed it's possible that the Takamine factory made some on contract for someone. I wouldn't call that a Takamine, though, even if they did.

Here's a very similar headstock design that is being attributed to Takamine and presently listed on eBay, though the seller is honest in disclosing it's unmarked and an unknown model .... This one has a Serial # of 7603xxxx on the neck block, but no rubber-date-stamp on the underside of the top (as is typical of Takamine) nor does it have the model stamped on the inside-back seam (as is also typical of Takamine):

First time I've ever seen the fret markers be the actual fret number. Interesting.

I'm sure you are right. My guitar is nearly the same with him then I know that it's Japanese made
