Hi,

I've always wondered which model Takamine guitar David Gavurin from The Sundays plays.

It would have been around 1990. You can see it clearly in this video:

And a decent look at it here at 2:18 (queued up):

Any ideas? I want to buy one.

It looks to me like it could be an EF340SC

Thanks for the help.

I notice there is some white detail outlining the front and back, and also where the neck connects to the body.

Does the EF340SC have that white trim?

Thanks, but the white detailing makes me think it's not an EF340SC ...

... any further thoughts?

It's an oldie. It has the "Brownie" preamp, chrome gears and printed logo. Can't really see much more than that. I suppose it could be a 360 but the fretboard is not bound in white.

Very cool -- I'm pretty new at this so please help, where in those videos did you spot the "Brownie" pre-amp? I'd like to be able to identify it if I find a used one.

Also, the "EF 340 SCGN" appears to be recently discontinued. But is that guitar pretty much identical to his? Or is his, because it's a different colour, likely made of different woods?

If you look at the first few seconds of the "studio" video you posted you will see the brownie. That preamp looks much different that the post 1980s preamps.

The EF340SCGN is actually a very different guitar. The 340 designation was used to specify the "mahogany dreadnought" spec. But the top is cedar and the finish is antique satin wher the EF340SC has a spruce top and gloss finish.

I have an early 80's F360S, it has white binding around the body but none on the neck or heel block. The guitar in the clip could be a 360 but it just doesn't look like it has a rosewood body (not to me anyway).

It's been a couple of years since I posted my question, but I think I finally found my answer.

Takamine EF360C.

Found a 1988 Takamine EF360C on ebay, and it's the only Tak I've ever seen that matches the one in the video.

- white border around the top and the back
- white detail between neck and body in the cut out
- "brownie" preamp/EQ
- chrome knobs
- fretboard is not bound in white
- 1988; "The Sundays" first album came out in 1990.

Here's a photo album from the ebay listing: http://imgur.com/a/54t5R

Here's the details on the Takamine website: http://www.takamine.com/EF360C
