Help me guys, I'm not sure what to do here.

I just picked up another EF-340c made in 1984 just like my other one, ( hey I love their tone..)

The issue I am having is that the gentleman who had it before me was a lefty, and although he left it strung the right way, he played it lefty, and he installed a second pick guard on the guitar.( identical to the original ...)

Now, I think the 2 black pick guards look retarded and here is where I need your help.

what can I do ?

do I : remove the extra pick guard and be left with a discoloration in the top?
do I: remove it and have the top refinished ( btw, it only has 1 small ding , and otherwise is immaculate) ?
do I : remove the 2 black pick guards and use clear ones ?
do I : remove the 2 black pick guards and replace them with something lighter ( maybe tortoise shell ?)

I have to say that the guitar is not 100% original. the tuners have been changed to sealed grovers, and the end pin jack has been replaced.(the work done is top notch though.)

OK... SO ALL WISE TAKAMINE GURUS...WHAT SHOULD I DO ?

You won't know how much the top is discolored until you remove the PG. I would remove the lefty PG and see what it looks like. Start simple and go from there.

I warmed the pick guard with a hair dryer to get it up a bit on the corner and it looks as if he had the pick guard on it since new. He obviously took very good care of this guitar. The color difference is substantial.( ie...it would be very noticeable if I removed it.)
