Dear All,

I have just uploaded a video review of the Cool Tube Preamp: http://youtu.be/lbaZB9LQA-0

In order to do justice to the various features of this preamp, the review is almost an hour long  However, there are bookmarks in the video description if you would like to skip ahead.

Despite the much-advertised virtues of the Cool Tube feature (which does sound awesome when used appropriately) I found the EQ on the preamp rather disappointing, especially at extreme settings, which is a shame.

I hope this is helpful to everyone on the forum, and please do get in touch if you have question or comments - either on YouTube (now married with Google+) or in this thread.

Next in line will be a review of the CT4-DX preamp, that rather mysterious and complex-looking preamp which until the recent release of the Pro-series was only available on the Japanese Domestic models...

Have a great weekend everyone!

Regards,
Bruno

Nice work again Bruno. I do admit to skimming quite a bit but it's certainly a logical and comprehensive review.

I'm looking forward to the next one. As much as I like the CT-2 I think the CT4-DX is Takemine's best preamp so far.

Nice review, Bruno. Very comprehensive, with a well thought out progression of features.

You've got me intrigued to hear what my guitar might sound like with the Cool Tube involved.
Someday, perhaps I'll purchase an amp, to play my TNV360S through, so I can fool around with some of the different available sounds this preamp allows, but, the guitar sounds so nice acoustically that I don't see it in the near future.

I applaud your determination to provide a thorough workup; it's not hard to see that you put a lot of time and effort into these reviews, and I do appreciate that!

Thanks for watching and commenting, it's always great to hear back from viewers.

The Cool Tube is definitely a unique addition to the sound of an acoustic guitar, and I think it's a real shame that Takamine did not retain the wonderfully musical and well worked out EQ of the CT4BII preamp, but instead went to the +/-12dB circuit that in my opinion is best left flat!

If you want to hear the plugged in sound of your acoustic guitar I suggest getting a headphone amplifier and a good set of headphones rather than an acoustic guitar amp - it makes it much easier to hear the differences in tone that come about as the result of EQ changes and Cool Tube knob settings.

Regards,
Bruno

Greetings Happy to me a new member.

Recently picked up my 6 yr old TH5 w/ CT2 pre-amp from shop. A buzz was very annoying. Discovered that all of the fan-braces toward the sound-hole had "released" from the top. Having them re-glued fixed the major problem but upon getting home and playing it still a major buzz emitting from the pre-amp. Taking it apart discovered that the small piece of plastic inside that kinda separates the lights so they dont bleed across one another was very loose and vibrating. I placed some tiny small shims of foam cut from a nail manicure square to shore them up, thus alleviating all buzzes. Yea !
