Hi

I'm thinking of adding a top end Tak 12 string to my collection.

What is considered to be the best 12 string that Tak have made? I don't think they did a 12 string in the legendary TNV Nashville series from 15 or so years ago, and it doesn't seem that there's a 12 string in the Pro 7 series - so I'm a bit confused....

Needs to have a CTP pickup as well!

Cheers

If you don't mind having a sunburst jumbo cutaway with a maple back and neck, the P6JC-12 comes with a CTP-3 Cool Tube preamp. There is also the P3DC-12 dreadnought cutaway with a sapele back and mahogany neck, however it comes with the CT4B II (non Cool Tube) preamp. It also has the pinless bridge.

YMMV but to my ears the Cool Tubes kind of blur the sound of a 12-string. I own a P1JC-12 (no longer in production but not hard to find used) and I replaced the CT4B II preamp it had with the 18 volt CT4-DX. I think any piezo pickup sounds better with the increased headroom from 18 volts, especially a 12-string!

I never heard the CT4 DX considered an 18 volt before.

Oh yes, i totally agree. They run in series as well so 18v, I just never thought of it that way.

The one that I am really looking forward to trying is the new EF400SC TT: https://www.esptakamine.com/products/19 ... -tt-series

This is the first thermal top 12-string and it looks to be really great value for money.

Regards,
Bruno

I have a number of a/e 12's and the acoustic 1981 Martin D12-45 Custom (that some Martin folks feel is the Holly Grail).

At a guitar clinic with John Jorgenson in 2013, I bought the signature JJ325SRC-12 with the CT4BII.

Replaced the CT4BII with the CTP-2 but after trying both pre-amps and conversation with Takamine, went back to the
CT4BII. Unique finish (Art Deco). Excellent guitar especially due to price but also great playability (projection, balance, etc.)

Gets a lot more play time than my other 12's.

If you are considering the JJ 12 string, which is a great guitar, buy it sooner than later.
