I would guess that he will not get $7,000 for it.

Is that a stock 40th Anniversary model?
If so, I think there are a few more than 10 of them. If he gets his price I think it'll be a high water mark for a Takamine

Maybe he meant 7000 Kiwi dollars (about 5,000 US).

Nice git, though. I looked the 40th up in my copy of The Art of Wood and Tone, and found there were (surprise!) 40 of them made. Might not be worth $8,000, but it's certainly worth something, especially in unused condition. I wouldn't put it out of my collection just because I'm running out of room. . . .

Anyone ever played a persimmon guitar? Thoughts?

Never played one. Persimmon is in the ebony family, hard and dense. I would think it would tend more toward the rosewood tone.

I just entered the Acoustic Guitar Magazine givaway which is this Mcpherson Ziricote bodied redwood topped guitar. I'll let you know what it sounds like when I win! Here's the info: http://www.acousticguitar.com/leveltwo/ ... s-641.aspxGood Luck, Blues

I got one, it sounded pretty good. Rosewoody I'd say. I hand compounded the b&s to bring up the gloss, that flat satin just didn't do it for me. The guitar dried out too much and got some cracks that are being repaired now.

REAR was right, someone would be getting ass-raped paying $7000 for it. Even if it's supposedly new and unused.
